German Chocolate Cake Brownies

Equipment

  • 2 medium sized bowls
  • 1 small or medium pan
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • 8”x 8” baking pan (a 9”x 9” will also work)

Ingredients

German Chocolate Cake frosting

  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup coconut flakes (sweetened or unsweetend)
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sugar (white or brown)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Brownies

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar (white or brown)
  • 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt

Instructions

German Chocolate Cake frosting

  • Separate the egg white from egg yolk. Using a whisk slightly whip up the egg white until fluffy.
  • Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. 
  • Add the egg white, 1 cup sugar, 1 can evaporated milk and whisk over medium heat until the mixture starts to thickens. 
  • Turn off the heat and fold in the chopped walnuts and coconut flakes. Set the mixture aside.

Brownies

  • Set oven to 325º.
  • In a bowl, mix the cocoa powder, flour, salt, sugar. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, mix 2 eggs, oil and vanilla until well combined.
  • Stir the dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix.
  • Stir in the German Chocolate cake frosting. 
  • Pour in the batter into an 8” x 8” pan.
  • Pop into the oven’s middle rack for 40-45 minutes.
